About Miss Allison's SpEd Spot

Hello! I'm Miss Allison, author of Miss Allison's SpEd Spot, and the creator of resources found here. I am passionate about special education teachers and the students they serve and I love creating resources to help everyone succeed! I believe the best teachers are always learning and I have certainly learned a lot along the way.

Keep reading to learn more about this journey that has brought me here!

About My Teaching Journey...

While in college in 2004, I started working with autistic students and students with multiple and complex disabilities through in-home tutoring and summer camps. This ignited my love for special education and inspired me to become a special education teacher.

In 2007, I started my dream job pioneering a brand new elementary self-contained special education classroom. I had to build my classroom, routines, and curriculum from the ground up. The hours were long, my hands were full, but I truly loved the work and my students.

About My Coaching Journey...

While I was still in the classroom, I was coached by our regional Autism and Low-Incidence Coaching Team. And in 2016, another dream came true when I was asked to join the team. I have been able to take what I learned during my years of developing my classroom and help hundreds of regional teachers do the same! Through my current position, I have become a Certified Autism Specialist, overcame my fear of public speaking to present to groups of educators locally and nationally, and have a constant pulse on the current needs of teachers in the special education classroom.

In addition to my full time position within the school district, I have been creating and publishing resources for special education and classroom teachers since 2021.

My Blogging Journey...

While I was still in the classroom, I started blogging to share my ideas and resources. I have loved connecting with other educators and sharing resources for over a decade. I have to admit some of my older posts are a bit cringey (my first post was a single paragraph with no pictures 😆) but again I kept going and kept learning and I am so proud of the ideas and resources I am able to share today.

My TPT Journey...

My TPT journey was actually the result of another journey I was on... On Christmas Eve 2020, I was struggling with a recent setback on the infertility journey my husband and I had endured for over 5 years. I needed something to distract me and knew how much I loved creating resources while still in my classroom. Plus I was hoping to make some extra money to put towards the infertility treatments that had drained our bank accounts more than once. So I dug into my digital files of resources I had created for my classroom and I got to work setting up my store.

Six months later, I found out I was finally pregnant with our son Campbell! Campbell was born in February 2022 and I had a full circle moment when my TPT earnings actually paid for his first month of daycare in August 2022.

Then in 2024, we were shocked to find out we were unexpectedly pregnant with our miracle girl, Maeve.

So now in addition to coaching, creating resources, and blogging, my days are filled with baby cuddles, toddler negotiations, and SO MUCH LOVE. 🥰

Thanks for reading and for joining me on my journey! I hope that you find exactly what you are looking for here and that I can help to make your life in the special education classroom a bit easier.
